💭 Story Note
In Japan, red and yellow autumn leaves are classic symbols of the season.
But deep purple also appears in many familiar autumn foods, including grapes,
eggplants, and purple sweet potatoes.
The Japanese word “sumire” means “violet.”
Although Sumire’s name is connected with purple,
violets themselves are generally known as spring flowers in Japan.
