💭 Story Note

「猫パンチ」 literally means
“cat punch.”

It describes the quick paw movement
a cat makes when it swats at something.

In this story,
Sumire makes her hand look like a cat’s paw
and playfully says,

「猫パンチー!」

It is not a serious punch here.

It is a cute, joking expression
that matches the playful moment
between Sakura and Sumire.

📚 Vocabulary

Here are some words and expressions from this story.

English Japanese Romaji
before going out 出かける前 dekakeru mae
to go get it and come back 取りに行ってくる tori ni itte kuru
to panic 焦る aseru
to try calling 電話してみる denwa shite miru
cat punch 猫パンチ neko panchi
🌱 Language Tip
「電話してみる」(denwa shite miru)
means “to try calling.”

The important part is 「〜てみる」.

It is used when you try doing something
to see what happens
or to see if it works.

For example:

「電話してみるね。」
Denwa shite miru ne.
“I’ll try calling.”

「もう一度、電話してみる。」
Mō ichido, denwa shite miru.
“I’ll try calling one more time.”

「〜てみる」 is a very useful pattern
in everyday Japanese.

It often has the feeling of
“let’s try it and see.”

🔰 Mix Words and Feel Their Meaning|ことばを混ぜて、感覚をつかもう

Today’s expression is 「電話してみる」.

Try mixing it into English:

“I’ll 電話してみる.”

“Maybe I should 電話してみる.”

“I can’t find it, so I’ll 電話してみる.”

The goal is not to make perfect Japanese.

Think about the feeling of 「〜てみる」.

It is used when
you try doing something
to see what happens
or to see if it works.

In this story,
Sumire uses 「電話してみる」
when Sakura cannot find her phone.
