💭 Story Note
In Japan,
changing clothes for a new season
is often called 「衣替え」(koromogae).
Traditionally,
people change from summer clothes
to warmer clothes
as the seasons change.
Schools and workplaces
may also have seasonal uniforms.
But today,
the weather does not always match
the calendar perfectly.
Even in October,
some days can still feel warm.
So instead of changing
all of their clothes at once,
many people keep a few summer clothes
and bring out some fall clothes
at the same time.
In other words,
koromogae can be less like
“changing everything in one day”
and more like
adjusting little by little
to the temperature.
That is why autumn closets
can sometimes look
a little crowded. 🍂

「衣替え」(koromogae)
means changing your clothes
for a new season.
In Japan,
people often use this word
when they put away clothes
from one season
and bring out clothes
for the next one.
For example:
「そろそろ衣替えしようかな。」
Sorosoro koromogae shiyō kana.
“Maybe it’s time
to switch my clothes for the season.”
「まだ衣替えしてない。」
Mada koromogae shite nai.
“I haven’t changed
my clothes for the season yet.”
「衣替え」 does not always mean
changing everything at once.
People may do it little by little,
depending on the weather
and the temperature.
